- Michael Bluth = Jeff Winger = the straight-man, smug
- Lindsay Bluth = Britta Perry = blonde, hypocritical activist, at times weird sexual relationship with Michael/Jeff
- Tobius Funke = Dean Pelton = ambiguous sexuality, oblivious and socially awkward, makes advances toward Michael/Jeff
- Gob Bluth = Chang = offensive, desperate for approval, low-self-esteem
- Buster Bluth = Abed Nadir = social disorder, esoteric knowledge/interests

The Buster/Abed comparison is a little bit of a stretch. Abed has aspergers syndrome, but he's also a massive pop culture nerd, is extremely skilled at sports/athletics and can jump in and out of characters at will. Buster is just an idiot (a funny one) with next to no actual skills.
