Thank you Jon Stewart for articulating the gay marriage argument so well. Yes, we can tolerate the anti-choice position but the anti-gay marriage folks are a walking self-contradiction. The most absurd thing to me is this is a GOVERNMENT acknowledgement of marriage not religious. I don't see Jews, Catholics, or Muslims petitioning the government to not acknowledge marriage between people of other faiths, why should two dudes getting married be any different?
It seems with the anti-gay marriage movement it comes to two talking points.
First, we have the re-defining marriage argument. Even a basic understanding of the history of marriage tells us that marriage is constantly redefined. It was only a few decades ago different races couldn't marry! Polygamy is condoned in the bible now it is outlawed. The American people would be absolutely offended if we instituted laws that defined marriage as it was originally defined. So why are we looking back a thousand years for guidance on this issue?
And then there is the argument that if we give gays the right to marry then we have to let polygamists marry! And then we would legalize bestiality! This is the most offensive argument because they are either implying that a.) gays choose to be gay (scientifically false) b.) there is something morally wrong with being gay. Polygamy is an inherently unhealthy relationship for both the participants and society in general (the fundamentalist Mormon compounds where they expel teenage boys to keep the status quo is an example of this). And both homosexuality and heterosexuality relationships involve the consent of two adults unlike the offensive perversions conservatives love to tie homosexuality with.
I am sorry to burst your bubble conservatives but gay marriage like slavery and segregation will eventually be a thing of the past.
And I must quote Bill Maher on this, "... in a hundred years, people traveling by jet pack to Mars are not going to be tripping on gay marriage. The whole issue is just going to be a joke. On you."

True story: just before I saw this episode I was thinking to myself, "self, Jon Stewart is amazing, but I'm worried he might peak. I mean, can you get more awesome every day without one day having your awesomeness fail on you?" And then I saw this, and I felt ashamed for having doubted Jon and his awesomeness. It cannot peak.
